Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Cupid Releasing Two Doves by Benjamin West was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2014, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 245,000.00 (€ 181,481.48). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Benjamin West - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of Prince William (1776-1834), Later 2Nd Duke Of Gloucester And Edinburgh, And His Elder Sister, Princess Sophia (1773-1844) Of Gloucester, which sold at auction in July 2013 for GBP 578,500.00 (€ 661,037.08).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Cupid Releasing Two Doves von Benjamin West im Januar 2014 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 250.000,00 – 350.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 245.000,00 (€ 181.481,48) den Besitzer.
