Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Banks Violette achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in March 2021. In the Contemporary Art auction, the work To Be Titled (Broken Record) sold for USD 17,640.00 (€ 15,021.72) - well above the upper estimate of USD 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Banks Violette achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work burnout (fadeaway), vol.1 in June 2008 with an auction result of GBP 205,250.00 (€ 259,442.88).
