Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Légumes dans un bol et huilier by Balthus was auctioned at Christies in London in March this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 18,900.00 (€ 21,502.40). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Balthus achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Thérèse Sur Une Banquette in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 19,002,500.00 (€ 17,044,129.52).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Légumes dans un bol et huilier von Balthus im März diesen Jahres bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 18.900,00 (€ 21.502,40) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Balthus erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Thérèse Sur Une Banquette im Mai 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 19.002.500,00 (€ 17.044.129,52).
