ARTHUR HUGHES (BRITISH, 1830-1915) Summer is a coming in signed 'A Hughes Esq' (on the artist's label attached to the reverse) and further signed and inscribed '"Summer is a coming in"/Arthur Hughes' (on the artist's label attached to the reverse) oil on canvas 32 1 ⁄ 4 x 52 1 ⁄ 4 in. (81.9 x 132.7 cm.)
Auction result misses estimated price range
In July last year a collector was able to acquire the work Summer is a coming in by Arthur Hughes for GBP 7,560.00 (€ 9,027.98). This price was achieved in the auction British and European Art at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Arthur Hughes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Birthday Picnic - Portraits of the children of William and Anne Pattinson of Felling, near Gateshead in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 380,650.00 (€ 555,736.99).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im Juli letzten Jahres konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Summer is a coming in von Arthur Hughes für GBP 7.560,00 (€ 9.027,98) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion British and European Art bei Christies in London erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 10.000,00 – 15.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Arthur Hughes erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Birthday Picnic - Portraits of the children of William and Anne Pattinson of Felling, near Gateshead im Februar 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 380.650,00 (€ 555.736,99).
