This artwork by Arthur Hughes achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in July this year. In the British and European Art auction, the work Head study of a girl, drawn for Charles Rowley sold for GBP 11,340.00 (€ 13,230.34) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Arthur Hughes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Birthday Picnic - Portraits of the children of William and Anne Pattinson of Felling, near Gateshead in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 380,650.00 (€ 555,736.99).
