Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A young lady, in white muslin day dress with puffed sleeves, her curling chestnut hair worn à l'antique; sky background by Andrew Plimer was sold in the Centuries of Style: Silver, European Ceramics, Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes auction at Christies in London in June 2009. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,107.13) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Andrew Plimer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A lady called Lady Whitbread, facing left in buff-coloured dress with white underslip, pearl armlet, holding a garland of leaves flowing from her dark curling hair in her right hand in May 2000 with an auction result of GBP 25,850.00 (€ 41,479.72).
