This artwork by Alfred Montague achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in April this year. In the The Marine Sale auction, the work French fishing boats sold for GBP 1,530.00 (€ 1,743.70) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Alfred Montague - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A blustery day in the estuary, which sold at auction in November 2003 for GBP 3,760.00 (€ 5,397.54).
