In January 2003 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Pictures and Works on Paper, which included the work A hay barge and other vessels at a riverside town by Alfred Montague. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 940.00 (€ 1,439.72), 34% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Alfred Montague - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A blustery day in the estuary, which sold at auction in November 2003 for GBP 3,760.00 (€ 5,397.54).
