This artwork by Alfred Montague achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in August 2000. In the BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL PICTURES auction, the work A Continental harbour; and Barges approaching a quay sold for GBP 2,115.00 (€ 3,457.90) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Alfred Montague; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A blustery day in the estuary sold at auction in November 2003 with the realized price of GBP 3,760.00 (€ 5,397.54).
