This artwork by Alexander Adriaenssen achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in May 2002. In the OLD MASTER PICTURES auction, the work A ham, a lobster, a crab and shrimps on pewter plates with a roemer on a gilt stand, a glass of beer, an earthenware jug, a partly peeled lemon and a knife on a draped table sold for EUR 8,962.50 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by Alexander Adriaenssen have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Roses and an iris in a glass vase, crabs and prawns on a pewter platter, a Façon-de-Venise wineglass, a stoneware ewer, a bunch of grapes, a bread roll and a roemer on a partly-draped table in December 2004 with an auction result of GBP 33,460.00 (€ 47,355.12).
