Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Pavilion in Autumn Forest by Xu Shichang was auctioned at Christies in New York in August this year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 50,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at HKD 151,200.00 (€ 17,785.77). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Xu Shichang - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Calligraphy, which sold at auction in May 2010 for HKD 500,000.00 (€ 51,944.38).
