Auction result well in line with expectations
The work In the Rapids by Winslow Homer was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in December 2020. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 1,048,500.00 (€ 857,318.07) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Winslow Homer have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Where are the Boats? in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 4,572,500.00 (€ 3,918,166.24).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit In the Rapids von Winslow Homer kam im Dezember 2020 bei Sothebys in New York zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000.000,00 – 1.500.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 1.048.500,00 (€ 857.318,07) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Winslow Homer auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Where are the Boats? im Mai 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 4.572.500,00 (€ 3.918.166,24).
