In December 2017 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters including Old Master & British Drawings and Watercolours, which included the work Sunset Over A Harbour; And Two Travellers Crossing A Bridge Over A River by William Payne. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,125.00 (€ 2,391.38), 18% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by William Payne have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle in May 2008 with an auction result of GBP 8,125.00 (€ 10,335.36).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Dezember 2017 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Masters including Old Master & British Drawings and Watercolours durch, in der auch die Arbeit Sunset Over A Harbour; And Two Travellers Crossing A Bridge Over A River von William Payne zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 2.125,00 (€ 2.391,38) und damit 18% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Payne auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 8.125,00 (€ 10.335,36).
