The work Six riverbank views, including Pentillie Castle seen from the River Tamar, Devon by William Payne was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2016. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,250.00 (€ 2,630.62) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Payne - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle, which sold at auction in May 2008 for GBP 8,125.00 (€ 10,335.36).
