The work Four Landscape Studies: Travellers On A Winding Road Approaching A Village; Travellers Beside A River; A Man Approaching A Cove, Shipping Beyond; A Ruined Castle On A River Bank by William Payne was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2017. The auction ended at the price of GBP 2,000.00 (€ 2,250.71), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00. Admittedly, works by William Payne have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle in May 2008 with an auction result of GBP 8,125.00 (€ 10,335.36).

Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 2.000,00 (€ 2.250,71) entsprach exakt dem oberen Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.500,00 – 2.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Payne auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 8.125,00 (€ 10.335,36).
