The work Figures seated outside a cottage beside a river, a church beyond; and Figures embarking beside a ruined tower by William Payne was sold in the Old Master Drawings and British Drawings and Watercolours auction at Christies in London in December 2016. The result of GBP 1,000.00 (€ 1,169.16) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Admittedly, works by William Payne have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle in May 2008 with an auction result of GBP 8,125.00 (€ 10,335.36).

Die Arbeit Figures seated outside a cottage beside a river, a church beyond; and Figures embarking beside a ruined tower von William Payne wurde im Dezember 2016 in der Auktion Old Master Drawings and British Drawings and Watercolours bei Christies in London versteigert. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 1.000,00 (€ 1.169,16) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.000,00 – 1.500,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Payne auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 8.125,00 (€ 10.335,36).
