Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2019 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Art, which included the work Near The Sea (Shinnecock) by William Merritt Chase. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 212,500.00 (€ 190,600.05) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Merritt Chase achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work I Think I Am Ready Now (The Mirror, The Pink Dress) in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 6,649,000.00 (€ 4,273,136.25).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Mai 2019 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion American Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Near The Sea (Shinnecock) von William Merritt Chase zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 212.500,00 (€ 190.600,05) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Merritt Chase erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit I Think I Am Ready Now (The Mirror, The Pink Dress) im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 6.649.000,00 (€ 4.273.136,25).
