Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by William Matthew Prior could be acquired at Christies in New York in May 2005 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Silver and Prints auction, the work Portrait of Julia Ruckman Smith changed hands for USD 4,800.00 (€ 3,886.95) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 6,000.00 – 9,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Matthew Prior achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Group of Family Portraits in January 2005 with an auction result of USD 156,000.00 (€ 119,549.39).
