In January 2001 Christies in New York held the auction AMERICAN FOLK ART: THE COLLECTION OF KENDRA & ALLAN DANIEL, which included the work Portrait of a Young Man in Beige Vest with Floral Decoration by William Matthew Prior. The »bidding war« ended at USD 9,400.00 (€ 10,098.84), 34% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Matthew Prior achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Group of Family Portraits in January 2005 with an auction result of USD 156,000.00 (€ 119,549.39).

Im Januar 2001 führte Christies in New York die Auktion AMERICAN FOLK ART: THE COLLECTION OF KENDRA & ALLAN DANIEL durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of a Young Man in Beige Vest with Floral Decoration von William Matthew Prior zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 9.400,00 (€ 10.098,84) und damit 34% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Matthew Prior erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Group of Family Portraits im Januar 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 156.000,00 (€ 119.549,39).
