This artwork by William Hogarth achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2011. In the Christie's Interiors auction, the work The election series: An election entertainment; Canvassing for votes; The Polling; Chairing the members sold for GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,459.25) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 700.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hogarth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Pugilist: A Quarterstaff Player, almost certainly James Figg (1684-1734) in December 2020 with an auction result of GBP 375,000.00 (€ 418,908.42).
