Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by William Hodges achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in September 2005. In the Arts of India auction, the work Unknown sold for GBP 10,200.00 (€ 14,969.25) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hodges achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Matavie Bay in the Island of Otaheite (Matavai Bay, Tahiti) in October 2019 with an auction result of GBP 659,250.00 (€ 764,682.72).
