Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A river landscape with monks conversing by a pair of megaliths, ruins beyond by William Hodges was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 9,375.00 (€ 9,846.48). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hodges achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Matavie Bay in the Island of Otaheite (Matavai Bay, Tahiti) in October 2019 with an auction result of GBP 659,250.00 (€ 764,682.72).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A river landscape with monks conversing by a pair of megaliths, ruins beyond von William Hodges im Dezember 2008 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 15.000,00 – 20.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 9.375,00 (€ 9.846,48) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Hodges erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Matavie Bay in the Island of Otaheite (Matavai Bay, Tahiti) im Oktober 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 659.250,00 (€ 764.682,72).
