This artwork by William Daniell achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2018. In the Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours auction, the work The Prince of Wales laying the foundation stone of the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, 31 December 1808 sold for GBP 8,750.00 (€ 9,810.67) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Daniell achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shivala Ghaut and Cheyt Singh's House near Benares in December 2016 with an auction result of GBP 485,000.00 (€ 567,043.69).

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Daniell erzielen.
