Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by William Daniell achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in January 2021. In the Royal & Noble auction, the work Edinburgh, a view of the Round Tower of Edinburgh Castle sold for GBP 16,380.00 (€ 18,523.51) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Daniell achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shivala Ghaut and Cheyt Singh's House near Benares in December 2016 with an auction result of GBP 485,000.00 (€ 567,043.69).
