The Daniells visited Malabar in 1793 during their voyage from Cape Cormoran to Bombay, and the only known engraving of a Malabar subject appeared in the Oriental Annual in 1836.

In November 2020 Christies in London held the auction Topographical Pictures, including China Trade Paintings. ARCTIC · AMERICAS · AFRICA · ASIA · AUSTRALASIA · ANTARCTICA, which included the work A Patamar Off Mahé, Malabar Coast by William Daniell. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 5,250.00 (€ 5,860.77), 50% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Daniell achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shivala Ghaut and Cheyt Singh's House near Benares in December 2016 with an auction result of GBP 485,000.00 (€ 567,043.69).

ARCTIC · AMERICAS · AFRICA · ASIA · AUSTRALASIA · ANTARCTICA durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Patamar Off Mahé, Malabar Coast von William Daniell zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 5.250,00 (€ 5.860,77) und damit 50% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Daniell erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Shivala Ghaut and Cheyt Singh's House near Benares im Dezember 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 485.000,00 (€ 567.043,69).
