Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Coast by Walter Elmer Schofield was auctioned at Christies in New York in November 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 25,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 10,000.00 (€ 8,831.58). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Walter Elmer Schofield achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Nearing Spring in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 181,000.00 (€ 116,323.91).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The Coast von Walter Elmer Schofield im November 2018 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 25.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 10.000,00 (€ 8.831,58) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Walter Elmer Schofield erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Nearing Spring im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 181.000,00 (€ 116.323,91).
