Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Still Life of Apples, Plums And Grapes In A Basket On A Mossy Bank by Vincent Clare was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,912.00 (€ 2,785.54). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Vincent Clare - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Primroses, apple blossom, and a wicker basket, on a mossy bank; and Plums and grapes on a mossy bank, which sold at auction in June 2000 for GBP 5,875.00 (€ 9,312.60).
