Despite a disappointment, a good price for Vincent Clare
When the work Primroses, apple blossom, and a wicker basket, on a mossy bank; and Plums and grapes on a mossy bank by Vincent Clare was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2000, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 5,875.00 (€ 9,312.60). Despite this disappointing result, Primroses, apple blossom, and a wicker basket, on a mossy bank; and Plums and grapes on a mossy bank is the most expensive artwork by Vincent Clare that we have observed at auction so far.
