In March 2021 Sothebys in London held the auction Modern and Contemporary African Art, which included the work Westminster Abbey by Uzo Egonu. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 16,380.00 (€ 19,242.28), 37% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Uzo Egonu - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Nigerian Woman Reading, which sold at auction in April 2019 for GBP 43,750.00 (€ 50,893.89).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 37 % übertroffen
Im März 2021 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Modern and Contemporary African Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Westminster Abbey von Uzo Egonu zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 16.380,00 (€ 19.242,28) und damit 37% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Uzo Egonu mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Nigerian Woman Reading beobachtet, die im April 2019 für GBP 43.750,00 (€ 50.893,89) versteigert wurde.
