An oban tate-e diptych of the kabuki play Shiranui monogatari (The Tale of Shiranui), depicting Princess Wakana using the magic of the spider scroll to conjure a giant spider to assist her in her fight with her enemy, published by Etsuka, with combined censor's and date seal aratame Rat 2 (1864), signed Nanajukyu-sai Toyokuni hitsu. Each sheet approx., 35cm x 24.8cm (13¾in x 9¾in). (2).

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Princess Wakana using the magic of the spider scroll to conjure a giant spider to assist her in her fight with her enemy by Utagawa Kunisada was auctioned at Bonhams in November this year. It changed hands for a price of GBP 460.80 (€ 533.97) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Kunisada achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Edo period (1615-1868), 1857 in March last year with an auction result of USD 47,812.50 (€ 43,101.51).

Die Arbeit Princess Wakana using the magic of the spider scroll to conjure a giant spider to assist her in her fight with her enemy von Utagawa Kunisada kam im November diesen Jahres bei Bonhams zur Auktion. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 460,80 (€ 533,97) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 300,00 – 500,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Utagawa Kunisada erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Edo period (1615-1868), 1857 im März letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 47.812,50 (€ 43.101,51).
