The work Spitball by Tony Smith was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2019. The auction ended at the price of USD 25,000.00 (€ 22,411.47), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of USD 18,000.00 – 25,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tony Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work For J.C. in May 2011 with an auction result of USD 530,500.00 (€ 369,017.81).
Zuschlag beim oberen Schätzpreis
Die Arbeit Spitball von Tony Smith kam im Oktober 2019 bei Sothebys in New York zur Auktion. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von USD 25.000,00 (€ 22.411,47) entsprach exakt dem oberen Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 18.000,00 – 25.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Tony Smith erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit For J.C. im Mai 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 530.500,00 (€ 369.017,81).
