This artwork by Tomioka Tessai achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in September 2006. In the Japanese and Korean Art auction, the work Crabs with Chinese Poem sold for USD 3,600.00 (€ 2,837.55) - well above the upper estimate of USD 2,000.00. Admittedly, works by Tomioka Tessai have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Meito zuroku (Catalogue of important ceramics) in May 2001 with an auction result of USD 12,925.00 (€ 15,286.81).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 80 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Tomioka Tessai erzielte im September 2006 bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Japanese and Korean Art wurde die Arbeit Crabs with Chinese Poem für USD 3.600,00 (€ 2.837,55) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 2.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Tomioka Tessai auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Meito zuroku (Catalogue of important ceramics) im Mai 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 12.925,00 (€ 15.286,81).
