In September 2003 Christies in New York held the auction Japanese and Korean Art, which included the work Bokuchiku zu (Ink bamboo) by Tomioka Tessai. The »bidding war« ended at USD 4,541.00 (€ 2,752.12), 30% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Tomioka Tessai have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Meito zuroku (Catalogue of important ceramics) in May 2001 with an auction result of USD 12,925.00 (€ 15,286.81).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 30 % übertroffen
Im September 2003 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Japanese and Korean Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Bokuchiku zu (Ink bamboo) von Tomioka Tessai zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 4.541,00 (€ 2.752,12) und damit 30% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Tomioka Tessai auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Meito zuroku (Catalogue of important ceramics) im Mai 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 12.925,00 (€ 15.286,81).
