Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of Colonel The Hon. Charles Hamilton (1727-1806) by Thomas Gainsborough was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 47,880.00 (€ 41,447.37). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Gainsborough achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Going To Market, Early Morning in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 7,961,000.00 (€ 8,740,648.70).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait of Colonel The Hon. Charles Hamilton (1727-1806) von Thomas Gainsborough im Oktober 2021 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 50.000,00 – 70.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 47.880,00 (€ 41.447,37) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Gainsborough erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Going To Market, Early Morning im Juli 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 7.961.000,00 (€ 8.740.648,70).
