In July this year Christies held the auction Old Masters Part II, which included the work Portrait of Henry Fane, M.P. (1703-1777), of Wormsley, Oxfordshire, half-length, in a gold-embroidered pink velvet coat and waistcoat, a tricorne hat under his arm, in a feigned oval by Thomas Gainsborough. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 20,160.00 (€ 23,520.61), 34% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Gainsborough achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Going To Market, Early Morning in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 7,961,000.00 (€ 8,740,648.70).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 34 % übertroffen
Im Juli diesen Jahres führte Christies die Auktion Old Masters Part II durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of Henry Fane, M.P. (1703-1777), of Wormsley, Oxfordshire, half-length, in a gold-embroidered pink velvet coat and waistcoat, a tricorne hat under his arm, in a feigned oval von Thomas Gainsborough zur Versteigerung kam.
