Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A wooded landscape in Suffolk by Thomas Gainsborough was auctioned at Sothebys in London in June last year. The price achieved of GBP 189,000.00 (€ 219,564.24) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 150,000.00 – 250,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Gainsborough achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Going To Market, Early Morning in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 7,961,000.00 (€ 8,740,648.70).
