Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of General George Cadwalader by Thomas Eakins was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 237,500.00 (€ 199,613.38). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Eakins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Cowboys in the Badlands in May 2003 with an auction result of USD 5,383,500.00 (€ 4,575,471.70).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait Of General George Cadwalader von Thomas Eakins im November 2017 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 250.000,00 – 350.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 237.500,00 (€ 199.613,38) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Eakins erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Cowboys in the Badlands im Mai 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 5.383.500,00 (€ 4.575.471,70).
