Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Thomas Eakins could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in March 2021 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Two Centuries: American Art auction, the work Portrait Sketch of Edward Boulton changed hands for USD 18,900.00 (€ 16,094.69) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Eakins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Cowboys in the Badlands in May 2003 with an auction result of USD 5,383,500.00 (€ 4,575,471.70).
