In May 2019 Christies in New York held the auction American Art Online, which included the work Portrait of Mrs. Matilda Searight by Thomas Eakins. The result of USD 30,000.00 (€ 26,908.24) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Eakins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Cowboys in the Badlands in May 2003 with an auction result of USD 5,383,500.00 (€ 4,575,471.70).
Zuschlag beim unteren Schätzpreis
Im Mai 2019 führte Christies in New York die Auktion American Art Online durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of Mrs. Matilda Searight von Thomas Eakins zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von USD 30.000,00 (€ 26.908,24) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 30.000,00 – 50.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Eakins erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Cowboys in the Badlands im Mai 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 5.383.500,00 (€ 4.575.471,70).
