Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Stephen Catterson Smith could be acquired at Christies in London in July 2010 for an unexpectedly low price. In the The Althorp Attic Sale - Including the Spencer Carriages auction, the work Portrait of Frederick, 4th Earl Spencer K.G. (1798-1857), three-quarter-length, in peer's robes, his left hand on a document, a letter in his right changed hands for GBP 1,500.00 (€ 1,803.58) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Stephen Catterson Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Marianne Gage, full-length, seated on a red cloak trimmed with ermine, feeding a dog in a wooded mountain landscape in May 2004 with an auction result of GBP 19,717.50 (€ 29,583.51).
In der Auktion The Althorp Attic Sale - Including the Spencer Carriages wechselte die Arbeit Portrait of Frederick, 4th Earl Spencer K.G. (1798-1857), three-quarter-length, in peer's robes, his left hand on a document, a letter in his right für GBP 1.500,00 (€ 1.803,58) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00.
