Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Stephen Catterson Smith could be acquired at Christies in London in May 2003 for an unexpectedly low price. In the The Irish Sale auction, the work Portrait of Sir Richard John Griffith, 1st Bt., (1784-1878), three-quarter-length, seated, in a black frock coat and white shirt, his left arm resting on a book, holding a geological map of Ireland in his right hand, in an interior changed hands for GBP 1,792.50 (€ 2,497.40) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Stephen Catterson Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Marianne Gage, full-length, seated on a red cloak trimmed with ermine, feeding a dog in a wooded mountain landscape in May 2004 with an auction result of GBP 19,717.50 (€ 29,583.51).
In der Auktion The Irish Sale wechselte die Arbeit Portrait of Sir Richard John Griffith, 1st Bt., (1784-1878), three-quarter-length, seated, in a black frock coat and white shirt, his left arm resting on a book, holding a geological map of Ireland in his right hand, in an interior für GBP 1.792,50 (€ 2.497,40) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00.
