The work General George Powell Higginson of the Grenadier Guards (d. 1866), facing right in black coat, yellow waistcoat and frilled cravat; pillar background by William John Newton was sold in the Important Portrait Miniatures including works from the auction at Christies in London in November 2001. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 600.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 646.25 (€ 1,028.39). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William John Newton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Captain Thomas Boteler In Gold-Bordered Naval Uniform With White Facings And Gold Epaulettes in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 7,800.00 (€ 11,583.24).
