Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Elizabeth, Viscount Powerscourt (d. 1884), standing beside an urn, lake and mountainous background beyond, facing right in red/orange dress with embroidered brown and beige coloured stole draped around her shoulders, holding a blue covered book in he by William Charles Ross was sold in the IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU auction at Christies in London in November 2000. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,057.50 (€ 1,728.44) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Charles Ross achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work [Victoria, Princess Royal (1840-1901) As A Child, Holding The Long Blue Silk Ribbons Of Her Hat, In White Dress, Black Coat, Wearing A Blue-Lined Straw Hat Adorned With Black And Blue Rib
