Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Study for a seated female portrait by Peter Lely was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 12,500.00 (€ 13,926.11). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Peter Lely achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Barbara Palmer, Née Villiers (1640-1709), Countess Of Castlemaine And 1St Duchess Of Cleveland, Three-Quarter-Length, In A Yellow Dress, A Coastal Landscape Beyond in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 368,750.00 (€ 414,974.11).
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Barbara Palmer, Née Villiers (1640-1709), Countess Of Castlemaine And 1St Duchess Of Cleveland, Three-Quarter-Length, In A Yellow Dress, A Coastal Landscape Beyond im Dezember 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 368.750,00 (€ 414.974,11).
