Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2018 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Evening Sale, which included the work Portrait of Lady Mary Fane, later Countess of Exeter (1639-1681), three-quarter-length, in a brown dress and purple shawl by Peter Lely. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 87,500.00 (€ 98,106.74) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Peter Lely have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Barbara Palmer, Née Villiers (1640-1709), Countess Of Castlemaine And 1St Duchess Of Cleveland, Three-Quarter-Length, In A Yellow Dress, A Coastal Landscape Beyond in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 368,750.00 (€ 414,974.11).
