Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of a Gentleman, three-quarter length, seated by John Watson Gordon was auctioned at Christies in New York in June 2003, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 119.50 (€ 103.89). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Watson Gordon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Richard Raines Savage, full-length, seated, in a black coat and white waistcoat, with two dogs, in a landscape in December 2000 with an auction result of GBP 17,037.50 (€ 27,140.59).
