In June 2008 Sothebys in London held the auction Important British Paintings, which included the work William Johnston Of Lathrick With His Two Sons by John Watson Gordon. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 21,250.00 (€ 26,860.71), 42% above the upper estimate. Other works by John Watson Gordon have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of GBP 17,037.50 (€ 27,140.59) in December 2000 for the work Portrait of Richard Raines Savage, full-length, seated, in a black coat and white waistcoat, with two dogs, in a landscape.
