Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Group Portrait Of Caroline Horton (1810-1901) Of Leamington, And Her Brother And Sister, Full Length, With A Dog by John Watson Gordon was sold in the Old Master Paintings and British Paintings auction at Sothebys in London in April 2010. The price achieved of GBP 9,375.00 (€ 10,788.79) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Watson Gordon - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Richard Raines Savage, full-length, seated, in a black coat and white waistcoat, with two dogs, in a landscape, which sold at auction in December 2000 for GBP 17,037.50 (€ 27,140.59).
