Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2010 Christies in London held the auction The Nicolette Wernick Collection British Watercolours and Paintings (1800-1950), which included the work The Iris by John Gilbert. The price achieved of GBP 3,750.00 (€ 4,560.35) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Other works by John Gilbert have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in November 2012 the work The marriage of Katherine and Petruchio: The Taming of the Shrew was auctioned for GBP 5,000.00 (€ 6,159.49).
