Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A tranquil stretch of the river by John Gilbert was sold in the British and Victorian Paintings auction at Christies in London in May 2005. It changed hands for a price of GBP 1,680.00 (€ 2,480.21) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Gilbert - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The marriage of Katherine and Petruchio: The Taming of the Shrew, which sold at auction in November 2012 for GBP 5,000.00 (€ 6,159.49).

Die Arbeit A tranquil stretch of the river von John Gilbert wurde im Mai 2005 in der Auktion British and Victorian Paintings bei Christies in London versteigert. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 1.680,00 (€ 2.480,21) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.200,00 – 1.800,00. Für andere Arbeiten von John Gilbert mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The marriage of Katherine and Petruchio: The Taming of the Shrew beobachtet, die im November 2012 für GBP 5.000,00 (€ 6.159,49) versteigert wurde.
